One of our crafty advent activities consisted of giving simple, yet pretty and/or tasty gifts to friends. To start the activity we read the verse:
John 3:16
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
We talked about the word "GIVE" in the verse above and explained its meaning as well in making gifts for friends to give to them.
We made gingerbread cakelets and a giftbox made of flowers as a hostess gift (for a party we had gone to previously). The kids really enjoyed making the gingerbread cakelets and putting their eyes and noses and buttons on them with icing.
The giftbox was made with florist block which Miles had the luxury of soaking with a bowl of water and the sink sprayer and Avery helped cut the white button mums and insert them into the florist block. I tied the ribbon around it. The giftbox was a hostess gift for a party we had been to previously in the month of December. Since we knew our craft may not last past a week and wanted the hostess to have it during the week of Christmas, we told her it would be coming later in the month.
Originally it was placed on a red bowl upside down, so that any moisture dripping from the florist block wouldn't ruin the surface of a table. In the picture above it was tweaked and placed on a candle holder above a silver plate.
